What kind of treatments do you offer if I have been diagnosed with cancer?
Your particular therapy will be determined after you meet with our gynecologic oncologist. Available options include but are not limited to: surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or a combination of these depending on the type and stage of cancer. Clinical trials offer additional choices to patients.

What kind of clinical trials do you have?
The Gynecology Center and the Weinberg Center for Women's Health and Medicine regularly participate in a variety of patient research studies on a wide range of cancers, both rare and common. Studies are conducted in cooperation with the American College of Surgeon's Oncology Group, Gynecologic Oncology Group, and the National Cancer Institute as well as with pharmaceutical companies.

The Gynecology Center is located directly next to The Prevention and Research Center at Mercy under the direction of nationally recognized epidemiologist and cancer researcher, Dr. Kathy J. Helzlsouer, formerly of Johns Hopkins, who works one-on-one with patients who express an interest in becoming part of clinical trials.

Do you accept my insurance?
The Gynecology Center accepts a variety of insurance plans. For more information, please call 410-332-9200.

We work with patients to make sure they are getting the full benefit of their health insurance benefits. Be aware that insurers have different requirements that need to be met before your appointment.

If your health plan will not pay for treatment, we suggest you ask your insurance company if it will pay for a consultation at The Gynecology Center. You can then work with your insurer regarding what your treatment will be and where you will be treated.

Do I need a physician's referral to make an appointment?
Most patients are referred by their physician. However, a physician referral is not required; patients may self-refer if their insurance plan allows that flexibility.

How can I get information on a particular doctor?
Visit us online at www.mdmercy.com. We encourage you to first visit our online physician directory to search for a particular doctor by name or by a particular specialty. Our 24-hour physician referral line is available at 1-800-MD-Mercy. To make an appointment with a physician in The Gynecology Center, please call 410-332-9200, 8:30am-5:00pm.

How long will I have to wait for my first appointment?
We know a diagnosis of cancer creates anxiety and fear. We will schedule you as quickly as possible given your particular condition and the availability of our cancer specialists.

What should I bring to my first appointment?
You will need to bring your health insurance identification card, a form from your referring physician, if required by your insurance carrier, the name, address and phone number of a person to be contacted in case of an emergency and the name of the person responsible for your bill.

If you are new to our office, a new patient information packet will be mailed to you prior to your visit.

If there is anything else needed for your appointment, our receptionist will inform you when you call to make your appointment.

Is there anything I should be aware of before my appointment?
The physicians of The Gynecology Center pride themselves on their attention to each patient seen. For this reason, and sometimes unforeseen emergencies, patients are not seen at their scheduled appointment time. It is strongly advised that you call our office before you leave your home or office to confirm the time you will be seen, 410-332-9200.

Once you arrive at The Gynecology Center on the 6th floor of The Weinberg Center at Mercy, our front desk staff will greet and direct you. A Women's Concierge is conveniently located nearby should you have any further questions or specific needs.

You will be asked to fill out a medical history questionnaire when you arrive to update your physician with information pertinent to your care.

Do you have wheelchairs available?
Yes. If you need a wheelchair, or an escort, talk to the receptionist at the information desk in the lobby of The Weinberg Center. Valet service is available at the front circle of The Weinberg Center for your convenience.
