The surgeons of Central Maryland Neurosurgical Associates now have access to the latest in computer technology including the advanced image guided surgery system to assist in removal of tumors, lesions, aneurysms, and other abnormalities of the brain and spine. This technology allows them to perform minimally invasive surgical techniques that will provide the patient with less risk and a shorter recovery time.

The system known as the SMN (Surgical Microscope Navigator), was acquired from Carl Zeiss, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of image guided technology and surgical microscopes.

The SMN guides the surgeon to the lesion in much the same way as a pilot using computer navigation to land a jet aircraft. It's a computer driven microscope that shows the exact location and size of the lesion on a monitor, providing greater precision during surgery.
