Thomas Swope, M.D.
Director, Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery
Thomas Swope, M.D., Director of The Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery at Mercy, performs advanced laparoscopic procedures, including single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS).
Dr. Swope received his medical degree from the St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his post-graduate training in General Surgery at the St. Louis University Health Sciences Center with an emphasis on Laparoscopic Surgery. Board Certified in General Surgery from the National Board of Medical Examiners, Dr. Swope is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Committed to clinical education, Dr. Swope is an instructor in the Department of General Surgery at the University of Maryland. He has authored numerous publications and has lectured on minimally invasive procedures.
Dr. Swope is a member of the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, American Medical Association, and Maryland State Medical Society. Dr. Swope consistently is voted one of the “Top Doctors in America” as featured in Guide to Top Doctors from 2003 - 2008.
Kelly Alexander, M.D.
Kelly Alexander, M.D., received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York. He completed his residency in General Surgery at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY, and his fellowships in Laparoscopy and Pediatric Trauma at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health Care System and Schneider Children's Hospital of the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, respectively.
Board Certified in General Surgery, Dr. Alexander is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Alexander has numerous presentations and publications to his credit on such topics as the role of laparoscopy in GI malignancies as well as clinicopathologic and surgical characteristics of cystic lesions of the pancreas. He participated in medical research at the Department of Surgery, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, conducting numerous clinical investigations concerning laparoscopy. Dr. Alexander currently trains University of Maryland Medical Systems resident physicians rotating through Mercy Medical Center. Dr. Alexander was voted one of the “Top Doctors in America” as featured in Guide to Top Doctors 2007 and 2008 and has been included in Who’s Who 2008.
